TOPIC: interesting air

interesting air 2 years, 6 months ago #61720

hi all again. I have rather weird questions about the air in the O tank.

Does the air matter on tank size?.

Do the air bubbles in the tank have any effect on the fish?

If so, what watt pump and size stone would be recommended for my 130 gallon tank.

?????

on a 130 gallon im going to assume you use a canister filter. and if in fact you do use a canister all you need to do is position the outlet in such a way as to create water movement across the surface of your tank. if you do this then an air bubbler is not required. the key to airating a tank is to have the surface water agitated to increase the surface contact with the air and this will provide enough airation for your fish.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

yeah i have a FX5 canister. Thanks for the reply. Also sometimes the water would smell a bit funny so i thought maybe airating the water would help with that. Also beacuse its the beggining of summer here and the water is constantly at 30oC with no heaters.

i concur with cris....in addition to that, powerhead is usually used to
agitate the water or to produce air bubbles. the bubbles from the airpump
and/or powerhead helps increase oxygen dissolve in water. during hot summer,
it helps to cool down the tank while during winter, the other way around.

FX5 is powerful enough for aeration. all you need is proper tilting of the
discharge nozzle to create a lot of bubbles and agitation.

some people install bubbler just to give background effect.

i have a 120 gallon, and i use two small air pumps (cheap petsmart brand) connected to 12" and 18" air bars. i have one of the air bars positioned below the outlet spray bar of my canister filter. the fast moving water pushes through the bubble wall an airates the water very well.
i don't think the rating of the airpump really matters that much. when at the store, i notice the boxes have "good for 20 gallon, good for 10 gallon", and mine are probably "rated" for a 30 gallon at the most.

i think an added benefit of an airbar is added water movement/circulation. mine is so good at moving water, it always ends up creating a ditch behind it.
Please, for my sake, change your oil!
