I would like a general consensus on which Canister is the best. Share your opinion with me. Personally I prefer Marineland products. They are very innovative, and produce high quality products. They also have a sound corporate structure. I believe one of the better Canister filters on the market For Aquariums 50-150 gallons is the C-530 Canister Filter
What do you think?

I suppose it depends on how many of us have use the various makes of canister filter. Personally I have only ever used eheim and since I have never had a problem with one going wrong I don't think I would be inclined to go for anything else. Yes, they are expensive, but you get what you pay for and where I often see people posting questions about other makes of filters that have got problems, I don't think I've ever seen a thread complaining about an eheim canister filter, so I would definitely vote for eheim. Top-notch filters that will cost quite a lot of money for the larger canister type, but will give you years of trouble-free operation.
I have used the wet dry filters which performed well, but I wouldn't recommend them for a tank that creates a lot of waste. In recent years I have used a couple of 2028 professional II canisters and they were truly superb.

I'll have to check them out. I trust your years of experience. I figured this thread would be a great forum for people to learn what is available and hear different opinions.

I started using the wet try professional eheim filters and I could not understand why after a week or two, they started slowing up. Basically the water would trickle through the media and slowly fill the canister up, and then it would be released back into the tank. It should take about 45 seconds for this process to take place. However, after a couple weeks it could take anything up to 2-4 minutes for the canister to fill up an empty It then dawned on me that because of the amount of waste being created by messy fish like Oscars, the water was not trickling through the media quite so quickly. So even though these filters are extremely efficient, they do need to be maintained a lot more than your normal cascade type canister filter which can be left a lot longer depending on tank size and how many fish you have.

etheim and fluval by far top. etheim is a top make but a little high on price, fluval offer near as good at a better price. i have known etheim pro's to run for 10yrs+ without fault. I have had a fluval run for 6yrs+ without fault. your a marine what would you choose M14 or SKS 7.62mm (Samozaryadniy Karabin sistemi Simonova ) etheim and fluval are the M14 of the filter world. solid. )

Codeman, if that is your real name maybe you should fly on over here to FL ! However with the way the gov't spends our money foolishly, I'm sure it will be no problem taking an F35 to the UK... just stop and get me on the way! I'd love to check out his set up too!

On my way Brooksie! Great analogy Marcus. The M14 is a superior weapon to even the M16...in my opinion, however I now carry the M4...I've yet to witness an SKS hit anything further then 100 yards...I understand fully Marcus.
