I'm setting up my 125 and have an Ocean Clear 340 with a 1020 gph pump. Is that enough or should I run my Fluval 405 also. Just seams like the water is flowing alot and I don't know how much flow is too much. Thanks.

if you are not concern with power consumption, you can run both.
the advantage with that is having two filter that contains beneficial
bacteria to keep water in good condition. if one bugged down, you are
still covered.

Thanks Paul. I was kinda thinking the same way. Can there be too much current though? Maybe just turn the 405 down a little? Or can you tell by how hard the fish have to swim?

you can set the spray bar of the discharge on top of the water to agitate the
water. 125 gal tank is huge.... it can accommodate two running pump.

The other advantage I see to running two filters is that you can stager the maintenance, so that you always have one filter with a good biological filter. So you clean one and the next month clean the other. Then wait, maybe two months and start over.
If you have just one you run the risk of destroying the good bio durring maint and having mini cycles every time you perform maintenance.

running two rena xp4's with no flow valves installed running wide open on my 8x2x2. i dont think you can have too much filtration. if you start seeing torn fins and the fish unable to control their position in the water you may want to turn it down a bit lol.

X2.

2 x fx5s on my 150g plus a wave maker 1200L flow.I once had a single filter running. got up one sunday morning to find it dead(not working) I had to run out and pay twice the price for another one. i will run 2 now. I have the additon of knowing I will never get an ammonia spike with 800g of filteration.

I had this problem too, late one evening the one filter i had failed andi had to get one the next day. 2 filters are better than one, this way you will always have some filtration if one fails. I also keep a backup filter just in case one fails

You need filtration rated for a tank twice the size you have. So if you have a 100g tank you need filtration rated for a 200g tank, for example a 405 is rated for 100g so you will need 2
