For a bubble wand all you would really need is an air pump and some air tubing...if you want to be able to control the amount of air going to the bubble wand you can either find a pump with a control valve or, for a couple bucks, by a control valve...but its not a requirement.

Well you need the bubble wand, air tubing, and an air pump...basically the tubing just connects the pump to the bubble wand and supplies the air.

Here is a link of one of the bubble wands...there are many different types to choose from:

Hope this helped!

yup, its pretty straight forward, you either get a pump and hook it up directly, or get a gang valve and put it in between the pump and your ornament or bubblewand or whatever you wanna hook up to it to control the airflow rate.
i rather like the gang valves bc you can hook up more than one thing to your air pump that way, if you choose to do so anyways

generally speaking the powerful filtration thats setup for the large oscar sized tanks when water is going back into the tank from the filter it creates a ripple thus introducing all the O2 you need. the air pumps and bubblers are not "nessisary" unless its especially warm or your medicating your fish and you see them huddled near the top gulping air. its more of a cosmetic appliance in the modern fish tank than anything. however it looks pretty, and it does help teh fish get more oxygen, so its a double win.

it definatly cant hurt anything

Basically here is how they work to give you a rough idea...connect air hose to pump, connect air hose to gang valve, connect gang valve to bubble wand...of course you can skip the gang valve if you want and go straight from pump to bubble wand. But like Win said they are nice so you can control the air and/or run other stuff off of it.

And the valve will secure any possible backflow of water, which could drain your tank slowly, in case of a powerfailure.

one thing you have got to have for safety is an anti-siphon or check valve or backflow prevention valve, whatever you wanna call it. if for some reason your pump quits on you, water could find its way back down thru your tubing and out onto the floor or into the motor of the pump where it could cause a fire or electrocution risk. the little antisiphon valve is cheap insurance against that happening. i dont run air without it bc i have uncommonly bad luck and it would be my luck i wouldnt notice the puddle on the floor with 120volts going thru it and get zapped tryin to feed my fish or something lol. that would be so embarassing.
