Ok...so I think i'm just gonna end up building my own lighting system since its gonna be way cheaper than buying and aquarium light...I want to incorporate lunar lights into my design and just had a couple questions about them..

I noticed on the set i'd like to order that they come in "moon white" and "nocturnal blue"...obviously I understand the color difference but I was wondering if either are better or if it comes down to personal preference...anyone use either one and what are your opinions on them? I like the look of the moon white because it does look like white moonlight which I figured would be more natural to a freshwater, river fish but I didn't know if the white light, even though its only like 1W, would bother the fish and if it would be better to go with the blue...your opinions are welcome!

Also can lunar lights stay on all night or should there be a period of complete darkness?

Well I believe it would come down to your personal preference. Lunar blue is often used in breeding tanks, in theory lunar blue increases breeding activity. In my experience it does do this. It's really up to you. I use to use blue led christmas lights.

I bought a 48" LED system off ebay from Moon Lites
After looking around they looked pretty good and mine have a dimmer to adjust it the way you want.

I use the blue Xmas LEDS and those stay on all night.
My O goes to sleep every night and is not bothered by them at all.

Thanks everyone! Glad to hear they don't affect the fish at all when they are left on all night...now I'll just have to decide if I want the blue or the white ones...both look awesome to me so like you said it'll come down to personal preference. Anyone use the white ones at all? Just curious.

Brooksie...at least you are at the cycling part of the process! haha! I'm dying to get that far...i'm just trying to keep myself occupied with everything else i wanna do to keep my mind off starting the cycling! haha...it isn't working though!

I don't actually see any point in leaving the lights on all night. My fish stay awake until the lights go out, and then they sleep. Oscars are diurnal, therefore you really should give them some hours of darkness like it would be in their natural environment
