Ok...so I got the temporary fix done on my Eheim Pro II until the new double tap unit gets here...got the filter running now and am going to start cycling tomorrow. Tonight I noticed a noise coming from the filter...almost a rattling/clicking kind of noise...sounds like the impeller moving around. Wasn't sure if this was normal or if it sounds like the impeller unit is worn??? Is there anything I can check to look for problems?

I'd just open the moterhouse, then you can find the rotor.
If you pull that out you can see if it's worn out.
The propellor has a magnet around the base and you should be able to lift it out.
That is indeed one of the things that may need replacing in the filter has been used for long.
You can check for sand in that compartment too.
I hope it's just trapped air, like win said

Ok...thanks for the help...I tried tilting it a few times and it still makes the noise so i'll inspect the impeller a little closer tomorrow. Its not super loud but it is noticeable. I'll try tilting it again later on and see if it helps at all.

How do you tell if the impeller is worn? Not sure what to look for.

imo the magnet around the impeller should be cylindric and just fit into the motor.
if it can be moved sideways in the motor, usually the cover around the base of the magnet will be worn down.

It may be air in the filter. Try emptying the filter and refilling it

ok...well the filter still is making a little bit of a noise but not too bad...emptied and refilled it and seems a little quieter so maybe its just air bubbles working their way out!
