Is it possible to have to much air in the water?

No, not really, unless you got some spectacular equipment we don't know about!
I use a pond grade airator with 4 airstones attached and run a heavy pump which creates even more bubbles.

My fish are fine .

I use the air to keep my water circulating through the tank.
In that way i use the heat from the lights to heat my tank.
I do not have to use a heater that way.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

only thing you need to consider is if the air is getting back into the filter. put the air stone away from the intake to the filter and you should be ok. Like noddy said most equipment on the market wouldn't produce to much

you can not put too much air in the water...it will just pop-up and burst on top.
no matter what amount of air you introduce in your tank, it will not stay in there.
perhaps, what you mean is aeration or water agitation. even without air bubbler
you can still introduce that by re-positioning your discharge pipe.

OK, I didn't think so but I put an 18in air curtain and this filter www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752390 (Penguin 350) on a 10 gallon tank. There is a lot of air in the water. I put this filter on the 10 gallon tank so it would be ready to put on the 55 gallon when its setup. Was that a good thing or should I just put it on the 55 when I get it set up?

Thanks again for the help..

EDIT: I can tell you the 10 gallon tank is spotless after a few hours with that filter on it lol.

unless your running one of these huge air pumps and have it right near your filter intake, you shouldnt have any problems

now i understand...it is not air but too much agitation due to pressure in discharge.
there is a danger in doing it...that might ripped all the fins of your fishes in the
tank. what you can do is to squeeze in more media to lessen the flow of water and yet
collect all suspended particles.... double purpose....

I just overfilled the tank a little bit and it slowed down the discharge a quite a bit. I'm picking up the new tank today so it will not be an issue for long.

Thanks for the input.
