I have a new tank getting made for me however they do not manufacture hoods.

Was wondering if anybody on the forum based in the UK knows of anyone who specialises in manufacturing custom hoods.

When my girlfriend 'won' a goldfish at the fair i refused to have it in a bowl. So i bought a tank, filter and light etc. I needed a hood so i made one out of laminated chipboard(it comes it various effects). You can either buy a big board and cut it yourself or some wood wholesalers/DIY stores will cut it to size for you (£1 a cut in uk). Fix them together with fixing blocks. Took me an hour or so to make mine. You need 4 sides, 2 bits for the top (1 half fixed (back half) and one hinged side(the front bit)). If you cant/dont want to do it yourself get someone who is a bit handy or a carpenter (can be expensive) to do it for you. The exposed edges can be covered with that iron on edging stuff

As an alternative most LFS should be able to get you a top to fit most common tank sizes however this might not be possible with large oscar size tanks

glass tops will posibly be the easiest to make as you can cut them to size and fit them ontop of tank.

Have a plan of action for the project and will post pictures once I get started. Might be helpfull for anybody else and if nothing will certianly be a hoot my end trying it.
