Hi! I was just wondering for this of you who have had smaller tanks and have substantially moved up in size have
you ever regretted doing it. Has it become a bigger job for maintaining or is it actually more manageable since it is larger. I currently have a 30 & started with the idea of going upto a 55, then after looking at the 55 decided to go for the 90, then I said what the heck go for the 125 and then I said not much more diff between the 125 & 150 so thats where my thoughts are now with the 150.

I will be keeping oscars, firemouths and dempsys. These are the fish I currently have and really don't have any intentions of adding more. I just want them to have the proper room to have fun! I just don't want to regret it
if it will be more then I can handle.

Opinions as always, are appreciated.

Thank you!

I have found from my experience the larger the aquarium, the less maintenance is needed. A 30 gallon tank is way too small for an Oscar and once that Oscar reaches adulthood, you are going to be doing more than one water change week. Okay, it doesn't take very long to change the water in a tank that size, but it's still something that you have to do more than once a week. If you get a tank that is big enough for one Oscar, you need only do one water change week. My 300 gallon tank only needs a water change once a month. So, the bigger the better in my opinion. Obviously, if you insist on overstocking a tank, you are going to have your work cut out whatever you've got

As for regrets, I don't regret going bigger at all. It is the best thing anyone who keeps big fish could do. Like I said, I've got a 300 gallon tank that need very little maintenance at all. I have also got a very large sump filter that you hardly need to touch
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved

well ive got quite a few tanks ranging from oscars all the way down to guppies and i can tell you that my biggest tank is the least effort,as a matter of fact im thinking of getting a huge tank and getting rid of sum of the small tanks as all the maintanance is really alot of work,if you r going 4 a 150 gallon i suggest you get it setup with a sump filter as a sump is alot less effort than any other filtration in my opinion

The bigger you go, the easier it is. I will be soon undertaking the project of a 500 gallon tank, which will be built out of cement block. I may build a 1400 gallon tank later, that is, if i can save up the money:laugh:

Yes! And the 500 gal tank project I'd like to see as well!

Margaret, I wonder if there is anyone at all who'd regret having setup a bigger tank, lol. I sure wish I could!
Only thing I could imagine which might speak against that is the electricity bill or your back being killed if you insist on doing water changes with buckets still
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

It isnt that much more work for a large tank than a small tank (as long as you do things to minimise the effort). For example on a small tank i used to drain water out into buckets, then clean the filter, then refill. On a large tank you change the filter while the water is draining out (housepipe out the door). Then you sit down while it refills (hosepipe from a mixer tap).

I have a 180g ,a 100g and a 70g. While the 180g is draining i clean one filter and do a water change on the 70g. While the 180g is refilling i drain out the 100g and sort my girlfriends little goldfish tank. When the 180g has refilled i refill the 100g. Takes about 2.5 hours with half of that with me sat down watching TV

Get the big tank, you wont regret it

"OK" before I make the jump for the big one.
And, if I go for the big one that will be it for me for life. No other place for tanks unless we eliminate the TV
which may not be such a bad thing anyway. We watch the fish most of the time.

Another option is a 90 over a 90 on a metal stand. That's
180 but then double of everything to run it. Ahh! but its 2ft shorter then the 150 and the fish really need swimming room, right!!!!

Oh! gosh, what to do? What to do? lol, my coupon expires for 10% off all tanks on 12/31st.

LOL Margaret
Think I'd still go for the 150 for the swimming room. (Not that I'm sure I would .. being female, I'm getting indecisive as I type.)
If you still feel you need another tank later, just replace the tv, put a frame around the tank and some buttons, et voilĂ !

Margaret,

I say take the plunge! Why? Well, I know that if I were you and had considered the large tank, and went with something smaller I would want to kick myself later on. If big is what you want than you might as well do it, or the thought of it will haunt you forever. (well it would me anyway )

Go for the big tank, if you go for a smaller one you will want more fish but have no room and then regret not getting the bigger one

My only regret was buying a 55 gal tank new when i 1st got hooked on fish..

for the price i paid for the new tank i paid the same price for
a used 90 gal and a 200 gal with everything needed came with it too.. filters heaters stand(cab) hood lights powed heads etc etc etc etc even fish came with it lol

And now im getting 2 more big tanks.. 300 gal (used)and a new 240 custom tank and cab.. htis has gotn to be soooo addicting hehe..

next spring i want to get some saltwater tanks and fish..

and im thinking about moving into a bigger place so i can totaly go nuts with more tanks and fish..

its kind of like having kids cept i think if i had a kid id only have 1 or 2 lol
