Ok...I am currently running an Eheim Pro II 2028 on my 90 gal tank (48"x18"x24")...I'm getting a Rena XP4 at the end of the month from my aunt since she is back in town now and was just wondering if this is going to be too much flow for my size tank if I run both on the tank? I don't wanna tear at fins or anything if both are running.

This would probably only be until summer and then I am hoping to have my 180 gal. tank and would move the Rena XP4 to that tank along with a second XP4 as well...then at least i'd have one cycled filter.

Any thoughts are more than welcome!

Ryan, as I know you are cycling one filter now. And the other filter is not cycled.. I would say, when you get your Oscars as babies, I would give your ONE filter time to establish really well as your babies grow. After a month or so of running one filter and Oscars growing, I would seed the other filter. What you have to remember is there has to be enough of a bioload to keep both filters cycled.

Ok...thanks Nicki! Glad I asked cuz I would have just thrown the other one on there right away. So after the tank is cycled and I have oscars that are growing and I can safely seed and startup the other filter will this be too much water flow in the tank? Don't want to stress the O's out or tear up their fins.

It will be fine as it wont push all of the water all the way across the tank. There will be resting places where the current as it is wont be as strong.

Mine love to "Play" in the force of the output!

Awesome! Thanks again Nicki! Yeah my feeders like to swim in the spray bar like they are little salmon or something! haha! And then there is the "special" goldfish that rides the bubbles from the airstone most of the day! haha!

in my latest innovation, i found out that increasing the volume of bioballs where
water passes through increases your time leeway before any water change. from the
time i employ 4 x 4.5 gal volume of filtering media where 1 x 4.5 gal container
hold on purely ceramic balls, my water remains in perfect condition after 8 wweks.
i am still holding and try to figure out when will the nitrate reaches 40ppm.

you could also run your old established filter as a bio filter and you new filter as a
mechanical filter to pollish the water,

then if you wish to change your new filter to bio, take half your established media out of your old filter and put in you new filter then top both up with new media
