Hi...was just curious if anyone else uses the WHITE moon glow lunar lights? I have the two of the small square units with 2 LEDs in each unit...was just wondering if anyone else thinks they are a bit bright for lunar lights like I did? I don't really like the blue light so I went with the white ones...I ended up putting black electrical tape over one of the LED's in each unit to tone the light down a little. With them both on you can still see into the tank pretty well and wasn't sure if this would affect the fishes sleeping...only other thing I can do is just use one of the units on half the tank and leave one side darker???

Will fish sleep better in completely dark surroundings? I have a light timer so if anything I was thinking of setting the lunar lights to go on for a few hours after the main lights go out and then go on again a few hours before the main lights go back on...that way there would be a period of complete darkness. Would this be the ideal way to go? Kinda new to the whole lunar light thing so your opinions would be appreciated!

any reduced wattage of daylight flourescent tube is considered white lunar lights.
but technology creates their own version using LED miniature.... i prefer a black
light to give better viewing at night.

I'm thinking what I might do is just leave the white lunar light on one end of the tank and disconnect the other one on the other side of the tank...that way there is a "moonlit" area on one side and a dark on the other...figure if the fish don't like the light they can move to the darker side.

the fish will always stay were the warmer side is....near the heater..
in most cases, they will hang on where the discharge point is located,
not in the suction area.

Thanks Paul...that will help...the heater and the discharge point are on the same side of the tank so maybe I will leave that side dark and use the lunar light on the other side of the tank! Appreciate the help!

I use 6x6 Deville LED spots, but i placed them right above the airstones.
Gives a more subtle shiny bubbles effect instead of a beam.
Plus, i admit, i use coloured lenses nowadays, for the white light is indeed pretty bright.
I do like the blue LED's ,so i put a bundle of Xmas LED's on top of the tank as well.
I think i spent half my fish observations at night, also due to my strange working hours...
Nightlights are a blessing!

On Oscars sleeping with the lights on, i read that Oscars can actually turn off all visual signals to the brain when they want to sleep.
They can do this because they can't close their eyelids.
A Oscar will not be able to see anything at all.
I observed my O with several kinds of nightlighting, and with no lights at all.
He seems not to mind and there's been no change in his sleeping pattern.
He goes to sleep at the same time, as when i still turned of all lights.
on the other hand i keep fake hanging plants on one side of my tank and i dont have the light on top of those.
So there is actually 1,5 feet of real dark tank at any nighttime.
My O is the only fish that goes to sleep every night.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
