TOPIC: old slow filters

old slow filters 2 years, 4 months ago #71654

im running a jeboa canister filter on my 90 gallon tank.(im not sure wich one, i think it was rated for a tank up to 180 gallons). wen i got it it was very strong, now about a year and a half later it has a much smaller output. i clean out the filter cartridges once every 2 weeks. i dont clean the moter because in my old hob filters it would grind up the impeller and get real noisy.

is there any way to improve my filters output?
if i need to clean the motor housing is there a certain way i should do it as to not screw up the impeller?
although i would hate to see fish fight, my oscar would kick your oscars ass!

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with these filters and it sounds like the pump is slowing down. I'm not sure but you are able to replace certain parts in a lot of filters, are you able to replace the pump in your filter?

Filters normally slow down because the media is completely clogged. Like I said, I'm not really familiar with these filters, I've always used eheim canister filters and they are absolutely superb.

thanks, ive always heard eihem was the best but there also the most expensive i thought i would get a realy powerful cheap jebo over a moderate eiem.

jeb is an ehiem version of taiwan... imitation...there are time some fiber strand
gets entangled with the impeller and reduce its efficiency. it has to be clean from
time to time.

Im glad you have things solved and it gives me the opportunity to mention a couple of things. We all know that the filter media needs cleaning regularly, but there are certain other parts that will need cleaning but less often. The filter tubes should be cleaned twice a year, as should the impeller and housing and associated holes in the filter top.
