I moved the filter connector (AR980 tank) and dislodged the elbow from the motor, I cant get it back in with a proper seal & the water comes over the top & out the back of the aquarium, down the wall onto the power source! tripped the power for the whole house this morning. I tried to reconnect but I am doing something wrong. I have switched it off and will be gone for 8 hours. will the fish be OK for a day without filter running? approx 8 hours

This will cause you to lose your cycle most likely... You should see if there is any way to get your filter back on line... Also i would keep a VERY close eye on your water peramiters.

I'd better go home & try again. My husband wont be too happy with me!

X2...having your filter off for that long will most likely kill off the beneficial bacteria in the filter and you will have to cycle your tank again.

x3, and just turning it back on after so long, will give an enormous ammonia spike, due to the dead bacteria.
The filter needs to be cleaned completely and cycled all over...

it was off for 2 hours approx, thanks for the advice on what to look out for - I will check ammonia when I get home, the water was good before, fingers crossed I haven't done too much damage!

if its only been off for 2 hours you should be fine. but to be safe do check you water parameter.
its better to see a problem comming than be blindsided by it.

all good, no ammonia spike lesson learnt! dont play with filter connections unless you know how to put it back together
