Well I was looking on craigslist and found a BIG tank...just waiting for some better pictures and some more details on it but its a 300 gallon acrylic tank with stand and canopy for $300!!!! The guy got it used from someone and his floors won't handle the weight of the tank and he doesn't want to reinforce his floors so he just wants it out of the house! Figure if it doesn't look like its in that bad of shape I just may have to pick it up!

Might not set it up here but for that price I didn't think it would be bad just to pick up for down the road!

Oh and anything in particular to look for with a tank this size in the way of problems? Other than leaking! haha! It has an overflow in the center of the tank...just curious if there are any questions I should be asking that I may not think about.

If my floor would hold it, i'd take it.
On the other hand, a 300Gl is a bit too big for the livingroom...
Will you be able to get it to the spot you plan to put it?
The moving of a tank that size may be troublesome.
Did you want it in the basement?
For the prize, i say go for it.
For the additional costs to keep a tank like that running i say check your wallet!
This tank will need some big investments to start cycling.
Are you willing to spend that money?
Think of heaters, filters, decoration,Prime, lights ,ongoing powerbill and of course new fish.
If you do take all this in consideration, then go ahead, make me jealous!
In my case my heart sais yes, but my wallet screams NO!

haha...yeah it would be a bit of a pricey tank to setup but figure even if I don't set it up right away its almost too good of a price to pass it up! Even if I just stored it in the basement until I had the cash to get everything going on it I think it would be worth it!

And yeah it would get into my basement without a problem...has a straight path from the front door right down the stairs into a big room so it would fit down there!

I guess I just figured there aren't many 300 gallon tanks with stand and canopy for $300 that often...would be a cool future project!

lol, all the guys that helped me move the 180Gl said they'd call in sick ,when i get my next upgrade!
And yes, the stairs seem like quite a challenge.

I was looking at a website that listed weights for acrylic vs. glass...says an acrylic 300 gallon should weigh roughly 300 lbs...which isn't all that heavy. I used to deliver big screen tv's that weighed more than that with just two guys...me and my brother are both bigger guys and I got a couple other people that said they would help if I needed it so it may work....you'd be surprised what people would do for free beer around here! haha!

Mine is full glass and very, very heavy.
so acrylic would be better to carry.

Haha...well I don't have it yet! Waiting to hear back from the guy who has it and see if there is any thing wrong with it or if its really scratched up or anything. I'm still a little leary with it being priced so low but sounds like he just wants it out of his living room since he can't use it! haha! Hopefully its nice though...wouldn't mind having it! Plus it would be a hell of a way to break into BTS and MTS all in one purchase! haha!


And of course if it doesn't work out i'll still be on the lookout for a 180 gallon! haha!

best time to buy someones tank, is when they have to get rid of it.
The guy i bought mine from had to move and couldn't take the tank.
i got a good deal for it was all in!
all his equipment including lights still in the boxes, sump, i could even have the over 70 ciclids he had in there.
i didn't want them, though.
Oh, I gotto sleep, it's 9.04 am and i worked all night, kids were awake when i got home.
Now i 'm gonna wake the miss' and get some sleep.
