Are there special LED lights for aquariums?
I'm thinking about installing one on my tank for night light.
How much watts? Is ok to leave it on at night when I'm asleep?
When I'm good, I'm very good.. When I'm bad, I'm f*ckin' better.

Sure you can get LED lighting for aquariums

www.aquariumledlighting.co.uk/

However, I don't recommend leaving the lights on all the time, turn the lights off for a few hours during the night. Not sure why anyone would want to have the aquarium lights on when they asleep anyway

Laziness. My tank's placed at the foot of my bed and I wouldn't wanna stand up and turn it off when I'm about to fall asleep. I just love staring at it at night.

lol, i just replied in this thread:
www.oscarfishlover.com/oscar-fish-advice...ghttime-led-lighting

i use a string of 2Watt Xmas lights, bundled with ducttape and put on top of the covers of my tank.
Cheap and easy, looks like a mess, but works like a charm...

I purchased a LED light setup for my 135 - pending arrival in the next few days. I'll post photos of it when I get it setup. The benefits are they run much cooler, they provide the 'shimmer' effect (similar to halide); they use less energy.

I bought some from fosters and smith...two small units with 2 LEDs in each. Think they are less than a watt for each unit. I got the white ones though so they were almost too bright so I covered one of the LEDs in each unit to kind of dim down the lights a little...works good.

I just setup LED lights in my new 135. They are AMAZING. Here are photos of the setup. I bought a total of 5 LED light strips (4 lights each; two strips have 2-blue 2-white, the rest are all white) + 2 lunar lights in white.

This is what they looked like.

1) since the LEDs are so small and light; we used velcro - first step was placing velcro on the LED lights

2) placed the "cro" part of the "velcro" onto the canopy

3) placed the lights onto the canopy; used zip ties to keep the wires neat and clean

4) installed

I'll post more photos once all the air-bubbles from the new tank setup disappear. I hope I can capture how awesome the lighting is!

a few pointers: make sure there is plenty of slack in the wires to allow for the canopy to be raised. use zip ties to keep the wires all together

Wow, and thank you Meghan.
My lights allready looked like a mess, but after seeing your neat lights,
Mine look like an even bigger mess.
Hope the effect shows on the pics!

and just for reference, what did you pay for them?
