Cheers guys/gals

It's been a moment since I was last on here. Hope all is well. Got a quick Q. Is it vitally necessary to do a water change every week, if all the water parameters are optimal after 7 days? This is the first time I have gone 7 days since this aquarium was established that there have been no lop sided water conditions of any kind, even with feeding the babies 'well'. Everything seems to be steady.

Cheers,

Joshua

looks like your filters are doing a good job then.
I say watch your Nitrate readings, and if they go up, do a waterchange.
We suggest keeping it below 40, but mine actually never reaches that in a week.
I still do 50% wc everyweek, while doing the gravelvac.
Just for the look of the tank.
Nice to hear your fish are doing fine.

Thanks for the quick response Noddy.

I have certainly made my share of mistakes. A couple of nice bouts of ich, overfeeding the oscars, because I gave into their begging etc...

Will definitely keep an eye on the nitrates. I am a little OCD about checking my water. I could start a mint probably on what gets spent on testing supplies ;-P

Once your tank has settle down and all is well you can test once a wk. you will soon get a very good idea when to change the water. once you know from a few wks of wkly testing what is going on you will only need to test for nitrates unless you suspect something to be wrong.

for me i know my main problem is nitrates. this builds to 30pph over 7days so i do a water change once a wk. I test a few days after my water change just to make sure its where it should be. 10-20pph. if its high i do another water change. so sometimes 2 a wk.

i don't test for ammonia, nitrites,ph as i know from previous testing I do not get any. and my ph is constant 7. i do test for ammonia, nitrites the day after servicing my filter or if any fish act differently/look sick or water looks cloudy. so you should settle down to buying more nitrate kits than any other.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.
