ok so i have just got my 180 gallon tank its all glass and is extremly heavy but besides that i took 75% of the water in my 55 gallon tank and poured it in the 180. so hopefully that helps my cycling process as i have my fluval on its way which i should get on monday but meanwhile the tank is cycling with my 110 aquaclear filter. i used sand for my substrate and i was wondering how long to wait to put the fish in there because i dont have the time and patience to keep changing water in the 55 so im letting the 180 cycle. i would post pictures when i get a chance

Unfortunately patients is something that you need when cycling an aquarium. I would strongly advise you to cycle your tank using a small shawl of tiger barb, or maybe danios, don't use your Oscars because they don't really like poor water conditions, during the cycling process the fish are going to be exposed to ammonia.

Adding water from a cycled tank isn't going to make a great deal of difference but it certainly worth doing as there will be some bacteria contained in the sand.

I am a little confused, is your 55 gallon tank still running with all your fish still in it?

Im confused too

However there is a simple way to upgrade tanks without having to cycle. Move from the old tank to the new tank all the water (top up with tap water-keep the temperature same), the filter and the fish to the new tank. Do this all in one go (within an hour or 2) and bingo one cycled tank. Leave the transferred filter and new filters running on new tank for a couple of months and then you can remove the old filter
I can't get no sleep
