As you know it got my Tiger O @ 6Inch in a quarantinetank, until she can go into the 180Gl.
I've been up several nights last week just observing the fish and letting her get used to my presence during daytime.
She's enthousiastic and will eat everything i offer her.
No sulking whatsoever.
She even ate a shrimp out of my hand this afternoon. Tonight a friend comes over and he hadn't seen her before and was impressed by her beauty. I fed some pellets and all was cool.
We watched her for quite some time, and then we had coffee.

After an hour i check back on Hope and she's breathing very heavyly, 15 minutes later she even opens her mouth to gasp, and is lays sideways in a corner!
At that time i notice that the filter is losing a lot of flow.
I immediately rushed to get the filter out and the media rinced in a bucket of tankwater and at the same time i feel the water is way too hot.
My thermometer said 25oC all week, that is76oF if i'm correct.
But not to brag, but i can tell the difference between water that is 23o or 25o by just feeling it, this was way hotter. My thermometer is a liar!!!!
I placed the filter back and took out a big bucket of water and refilled it with a bit cooler water with prime.
I placed the filter back and it's airating and filtering like it's used to do.
I turned down the heater quite a bit for my tankwater will never go below 74o, as my tanks are close to the central heaters, and i'd rather have that than coocked Oscar.
Hope is acting normal again, breathing normal and not laying down anymore.
It took her about half an hour to adjust again.

I did a waterchange this afternoon and i know waterparameters couldn't be better as they are now. (0-0-<5, didn't test pH)
That's why i started to investigate with this sudden change in behaviour!
I know Oscars can sulk or just act funny for no reason, but I'm glad i have observed my fish for so many hours, to know if something is really wrong by looking at them.
I'm so happy i was close when this happened for i don't know if he would have survived a night in those conditions with too much heat due to less filtration.

I'm gonna check the temp by hand once more and if there's doubt the thermostat is broken, i'll swith it off.

Sorry this became quite a post but i allmost forgot how quickly things can go haywire with small tanks.

OMG Noddy... Great Save... You know, Cris and I were talking about it today, and as long as he is acting normal and not showing any signs of illness, I would put her in the big tank... Just a thought!!!

My friend that was here tonight sugessted the same thing for she looks healthy as can be . Not even a scratch on her.
She eats very good and responds to anyone coming near the tank.
I am close and will be around all the time if it wouldn't work out.
But not working out will only mean rehoming fish within our house, for Hope is staying for sure!
So i may enjoy the combo sooner then i expected!
I long for that moment so much......
I may move the interior of the 180 a bit around and go for it then, tomorrow!

(this was actually the first time i ever quarantined a fish before introducing as showfish!)

Good catch. I have had the same problem. Temp read 78 tank was actually 89. It was a combination of a heater and thermometer problem. A freak accident; ever since then I use my normal nice digital thermometer and a cheap glass one that has the little green safe zone. The best thing I have learned from this site is to be able to tell when something is wrong and have 4 or 5 things you can check quickly. Most of the time that's it and problem solved.

I'm truly glad that i noticed that several things were off, for it would have been hell to find her floating in the morning!
But all is fine and she's acting strong and healthy.
So I'm gonna do a wc in the 180Gl and move the deco around a bit and plan to introduce Hope into the tank tonight. I think i may put the piece of wood she uses for cover from time to time in the 180Gl as well for some time.
Better load my dv camera first!lol

Well done Noddy. This is why is always a good idea to give your tank a once over everyday. Check fish is ok, temperature is good and filter is working. feeding time is a good time to do this
I can't get no sleep

That's the treatment the other tanks usually get and that's why i can tell the difference roughly in watertemp.
I decided to do the moving project tomorrow morning and we'll see what happens.
I allready had 2 people that looked at my fish saying they'd "cleanout" their big communitytanks for me to rehome my Tiger O if nescesary!
I guess that's a very nice way of saying that they like my fish!lol
