In my opinion Eheim manufacture the Rolls-Royce of canister filters. I've used them ever since I first started keeping Oscars and I've never had one go wrong on me.

I'll second the Eheim recommendation (I have a Eheim Pro III). I like it because it has two intake tubes, it's nearly silent, pretty easy to clean, and rated for 320 gallons (filters 450 gph at only 30 watts) - so it's efficient too. yes, it is pricy, but I see it as an investment - a quality piece of equipment that will last a long, long time.

When picking out a filter for O tanks be sure to have at least double the capacity. i.e. for the Eheim Pro 3; no larger than 160 US gallon tank). more is always better:)

currently I have a fx5, rena xp4, eheim, and sunsun externals running.

The fx5 is great... EXCEPT its very pricey, and larger than average.

The rena xp4 are a real let down campaired to the xp3 and 2. They are noisey, lose water flow within hours of cleaning them, and leak, I have 4, and they are all the same, and at nearly £200 a go, a complete rip off.

I have a large eheim classic which is my second best filter.
Quiet, reliable and not overly large.

My absolute best filter, shockingly, is the 2500 litre sunsun external with built in uv.
First, the price.
£50, yes FIFTY POUNDS for a filter compairable with any premium external, and of compairable capacity with the xp4, fx5 etc.
It is silent.
The water comes out the hose like a firehose!
Its good quality, cheap to run, and comes with plenty free media.

I would buy a sunsun over any other external now, no matter what the price.

Torbayguy,
I couldn't agree more.

I have 3 of the Sunsun filters, 1 with UV and 2 without... They are GREAT! And by far a better price.

I also have an FX5 and it is a good filter but when you compare it to the Sunsun, there is no competition. They work as well as the FX5 and are a HELL of a lot cheaper!
It's NOT smart to piss off the girl with the BAN button!

always run atleast 2 filters on my tank, that way if 1 dies, I still have the other.
Also I have 1 as a chemical, and the other biological, its easier for cleaning.

Remember you can never over filter a tank.

That sunsun looks fine, although its the smaller model, the next size up are literally a few quid more and thats it!

But yes, it should be fine along side your other one.
