TOPIC: which is the best filter??

which is the best filter?? 2 years, 2 months ago #85738

hey all, first post here so go easy hey
i have got myself a 600L (170 GL) tank, and the filter doesnt seem to crash hot. its the filter that came with it, it gets water in at the back & top, but doesn't seem to clean the water that well.

anyways, i was thinking of getting a new one, or an extra to run beside it, and was wondering what size i would need? any help would be great, even knowing the better ones out there.

cheers!

first of all, can you get picture of the said filter? if it was sold with the tank,
i assumed it is designed and compatible with tank. can check the tin plate to get
info about the filter: brand; model; capacity? further, have you check if it does
equip with filtering media inside?

just an idea on what to look for!

it has "Juwel Aquarium" written on it, thats all i can see on it..

first, i am just surprised that the filter box is submerged inside your tank.
it is supposed to be hang on back (HOB). nevertheless, it will work just fine
even if submerge inside but will occupy some space in the tank.

the crawling white worms must be planaria, from the previous set up. it thrives
in a substrate or at the filter media.

from the look at the media inside, it seems not sufficient to do the filtering
job, thus, as you said not working enough. i suggest you put additional fiber
or scrubbing stuff to increase filtering efficiency.

thans for the help Paul. i added some extra white cotton into it, do you think maybe a second (small) filter on the other side may aid it well

any additional pump is an assurance that if one fail, you still have establish
back up. but curiosity never stop me here.... there is a plate in tray indicating
the flow rate like liter per hour or minutes (LPH; LPM or GPM) we can determine
if the HOB is good enough for your tank size. can you check pls?

that is a good capacity huh!...260GPH.
with correct set of filter media and the proper sequence,
you can attained good filtration with that.
