Anyone heard of bio-stars? I've been using them for some time and they seem to work fairly well.

I would say these look like very efficient biological media. Anything with a large porous surface area is a good material for biological media. And as you can see it only takes four of these little stars to actually service 20 gallons. So if you have a couple of hundred in your filled so you've got tons of biological media at your disposal

I think you would probably be wasting your money getting them to ship over to the UK, there are plenty of alternatives available here in the UK that do just as good a job

yes bio stars work very well. My buddy who has been keeping fish for over 40 years uses them exclusively

I'd be surprised if you couldn't get them in the UK but I'd agree it might be cost prohibitive to ship them though they're pretty light if weight is the deciding factor.
I have one of my canister drawers full of them and I believe they work much better than the ceramic rings I also have. They are kind of pricey to buy a bunch of them but you don't need that many.

I think this is just a newer version of the Bio balls.. or the bio ceramic rings..
height of cheapness.. rather laziness.. I was feeling bored to order just ceramic rings to put in the second layer of my canister recently.. so I used cut flexible pipes instead and it works the same way.. only difference its free
