i recently saw someone posted a 4 stage canister filter off ebay...i plan on getting this for my upgrade to a 75 gallon..im just curious if i buy this now and hook it up to my 30 gallon everything will be ok right...i assume the more the filtration the better but just wanted to make sure

You should be ok... Just keep in mind that the filter you are talking about moves 530gph... That is a VERY high turn over for a 30 gallon tank!

yap...you can hook it up with your 30 gal tank to seeded the filtering media.
normally, canister type have some gate valve to regulate the flow rate to
avoid to much rippling.... when the 75 gal arrive, you can hooked up both
pump right away and enjoy the big tank instantly.

This filter does NOT have a way to regulate flow, it is either ON or OFF! Go just keep an eye on your O's fins!

The FX5 Does have a way to regulate... But the canister he is talking about does not... But you are right, a ball valve would work!

On the FX5 it is at the base of the in tube and the out tube. All you have to do is turn them to the desired level of flow!

There is also a quick release but there is also the flow control knob!

There is no duplication on the FX5! I can give you a few pointers on how to slow the flow down when you get it, if this si the filter you want!
