Hey all my friends on OFL !!! I am still alive but it is summer now (in FL at least) and boating is ALWAYS on the agenda.

So here is my problem.... I can not keep my water temp down! Granted FL is warmer outside - 80's - but the inside of the house is in the low 70's. My tank is running between 80-82. The heater is OFF (JBJ TRUE TEMP 500W Digital Titanium Heater) and I replaced the thermometer and have a hanging mercury one just in case. I have kept the light off for days. I also can not get the tank to clear up - slightly cloudy. The fish are not being fed at the moment in case it is over feeding (only feed once a day). The levels are all perfect... 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrates, 7.6 PH, 20 Nitrites.

Thoughts?

82°F? That is okay, I shouldn't worry. If it starts raising way above 34°F, that's when it may be a bit warm long-term.

Ok.. .not worrying! But I do worry when the temp outside in FL gets to be pushing 100... hope the tank will stay below 82.

we never use heater but when temp is going up, we used to have additional
bubblers and water flow tank to allow heat exchange in the process.
82 deg is still acceptable for oscar

Yeah, luxury problems...
If temps get too crazy, waterchanges can help a bit.

So we came up with a simple solution that is working very well. Took a 2 liter bottle and filled it with water then froze it. Took the frozen bottle and put it in the sump pump. The water that cycled through was cooled and it lowered the temp in the tank slowly. Able to keep the tank at a nicer 79-80 degrees. Much better! And I don't have to do water changes all the time.
