Hello,
I recently heard about Diatom Filters. I don't know anything about them, except for what the person said, ..."for getting the water really clean, nothing beats a diatom filter.
but they plug up really fast and recharging them is a lot of work".

Has anyone used this? or have any info they would like to share?

I have never used one but know they can get your water sparkling clean. they have a few problems, one is as you say they block up very quickly, 2nd is they can back flow into your tank. 3rd is they are not simple you use. you can get similar results from a polishing pad inside a canister without any of the problems of a diatom. not sure many of our members will use one cos the mess oscars make just mean they are to much trouble. if you use it a few hours each day it may be a way to get sparkling water.

sadly i don't have oscars any longer. i have a arowana that killed my oscar (. this left me wanting another oscar but not willing to try with the Arow. I also have a number of clown loach.

yes that bloody parrot isn't mine, its the wife's "odd fish". she got it (she says for me) many yrs ago and it has given me a very hard time over the yrs. I see the parrot as a "fake" fish. its unnatural and a odd shape i don't like. I'd rather have a oscar or JD or even a green terror. but i got that parrot instead ((( making nitrate for me. taking up space. dam fish.

the arow is a singapore red tail golden. I love it, along with my large clown )))

the 2 tigers together where very nice fish, the bottom one being my favorite. it was 12" and fed from my hand and even let me stroke it and rub its head. i got up one morning to find it dead (No reason and no idea why) the top lone tiger replaced the white i lost but didn't get on with the smaller white. ( so i lost the other white. then i got the arow and that broke the jaw of the dark tiger. mixing fish just don't pay off sometimes. when you get a few fish that get on well its worth taking some time to really consider if you should add another. I made a few mistakes here and learn the hard way. I would like to get a few red oscars, but don't have room. ((

I had a friend that had a very tame oscar and did the things urs did Marus...

in mixing fishes too. like marcus, i did had a silver arow who died when
hit by the pangasius.
