One one of my tanks, the glass appears to have a "haze" to it. It seems like it is some sort of film. I think it may be algae or salt deposit. A few weeks back the tank was drained cleaned out moved upstairs at my house then filled again. I used an aquarium brush thingey in attempt to remove all of this haze. I thought when i filled back with water the haze would dissapear, but hasn't really. I used a razor blad to scrape off as much as i could while tank was filled last week; I did see algae come off, and the haze got a little better but still there.

I have heard of people using some products that may help. and i also heard of using vinegar. I haven't attempted either one, mainly because I would need to remove the fish and drain the tank, etc.

Does anyone have any experience in this sort of thing? and could share some ideas?

Example:

Thanks

I have had a haze on one of my tanks. I just used one of those algae scrubbers with a handle, you know the blue ones, and scrubbed during a water change. That seems to have cleared it up!

Thanks Nicki.

That algae scrubber with the blue handle is exactly what I was talking about I used when I called it a "brush thingey". That helped, but it seems this film is on there too good to get off with just that. So I tried an actual razor and it got more of it off. But there is still just a little haze to the tank; just enough to annoy me. So I think there is something else I am missing here.

Thanks again!

I know the feeling about getting stuff of a tank.
I am having a bit of a problem with this 6' tank of mine. I have it out under the carport just getting it all cleaned up. The guy that had it before me put one of those ANCIENT....paper back grounds and stuck it on the tops and the side too with what I can describe as black ...DUCK TAPE Doh !!!!! The top came of easy enough and the canvas layer in between was bit of a pig but there is the glue stuff on the glass and the thing just will not budge. I must have to use some kind of chemical. Dont know what though
Anybody got any idea?

If the problem is hard stuck on adhesive then try some white spirit and elbow grease

As for the white film, you can get algae scrapers that have a razor blade in it- this will clean anything off and you dont accidentally scratch the glass
