hi everyone, i'm new to this site. i've recently bought a second hand fish tank it comes with "Jäger 75 W Typ LZRH 75 heater". i'm trying to heat up my aquarium to 26-28 degree Celsius.

i'm wondering does anyone has the same heater as i do? if anyone does, can you please teach me how to use it? the temperature control is not the same as the normal heater, instead of having temperature markings, it only have number from 1 to 10.

so which number is 26-28 degree celsius?

regards,
Kevin

Hi there and welcome... Call me Jamie.
How big is ur tank? Lts/gls. What was the number that the heater was set at when u got it? Normally the mid range number on the heater is the standard setting for a fish tank. Put the heater in and watch the temperature. Does it have an 'ON' light when it is heating?
I have a small thermometer that is fixed with a sucker on the inside of the tank that gives an accurate reading. My heater is set to 26 celcius

A 75W heater is not very big at all. I have a 2'x1'x15" and in it I have a 100w. Obviously, the bigger the tank the bigger the heater.

hi jamie, thanks for your reply. im having a 4ft tank, and i got 2 heaters in it currently. one of them is a 50W and another is the 75W. im using 2 of them for now and planning to get a better heater probably next month. when i got it it was set to around 7 and it does have an "on" light when heating. im still trying to bring my temperature up right now, and it's about 24.5 degrees now. i'll try to adjust it when the temperature reaches 26 degrees. thanks for your help

Kevin

Kewo.... When u say ur tank is 4'. 4'x?x? Its the lts/gsls that you need to know to determine how big ur heaters will have to be.
On the home page of OFL down the lefthand side you will see'TANK CALCULATOR' Punch in the H/W/L of ur tank and it will tell u how many litres of water it holds.

Correct me if I am wrong guys but I think it works out about 1W per litre... roughly.

Better to have a heater that is a bit powerful than under powered. An underpowered heater can be on all the time.....

it's a 180 liter tank, so i would probably need a 200W heater?
what's a good brand for heaters? i'll probably need to save up quickly and get one.
right now the temperature stayed at 27 degrees. i'm not sure whether it would be able to stay at that temp when the night comes.

Rena Heaters claim to be unbreakable by fish and I have been told by members that they are.
Kewo, what are the dimensions of ur tank anyway?

In inches it works out at 48"x14"x17+3/4. The litreage is a tad under 193.5
Strange size of tank was it home made?
I am sure the guys on the site will recommend a 200watt heater. Some like to go for two incase one fails. Maybe 2x150. I have heard that when the tank is running at the correct temperature they turn one down a bit as it is used as a back-up. I cant remember who said that but only an option.

Here is a very good article, I found it very informative. There is alot of advanced info you don't really need to worry about but also a lot of basic info as well.

www.beananimal.com/articles/aquarium-hea...hat-you-need-to-know !.aspx

It won't link directly so just copy and past the full address into the top bar.

I use 2 150 w heaters for my 55 gallon.

Also, it looks as if you might have a few questions about tank sizing, filtration, etc.

The below link can calculate sizes for filters, ph range, temperature range, fish stocking by size and species, etc. etc., although the water change recommendations seem very high to me. (It says my tank is overstocked (which it is as a 55 gallon housing a common pleco and a tiger oscar, although I hardly recommend an 81% water change per week lol). The rest of the info seems very valid though.
All you need to do is add how many and what type of fish you have, the size of the tank, and the type of filtration, click update, and it will display facts, figures, and recommendations for you.
