TOPIC: Ecco pro 300 - opinion?

Ecco pro 300 - opinion? 2 years ago #93624

I am presently running two large Eheim canister filters, a Pro 2 and Classic 2217 and wondered if I'd save money in the long term switching to the lower wattage Eheim Pro canisters instead. Both the current Eheims are 20W each. The Ecco Pro 3 runs at 8W I think.

Anyone use these in their Oscar tanks? And if so, are they up to the job?

I suppose in this day and age it's a good idea to try and save energy. As long as any economical filter does the job and I can't see any problem with using it. We normally recommend double turnover rate if you are keeping oscar's. The last thing you want to do is compromise the health of your aquarium by trying to use something that isn't up to the job

I am pretty sure the biggest ecco pro is for 66g tanks. so depending on you tank size you may need a few of them. whats your tank size?

yes i am correct from the Ethiem site

The output is only 600 lph but it
delivers it for just 8W of energy. That
means our tank was only turned over
2.5 times per hour, but the unit is rated
by Eheim for aquaria up to 300 l./66 gal.
making the fi lter particularly good for
those who require a large media capacity
in relation to output. Minus the carbon
pad it would be particularly good for
planted tanks.
RRP £97.06.

wattage and flow rate is always my basis for choosing a pumps.
can you please check what is the capacity of it at 8W power rating

I'm not being particulary eco-conscious I'm must confess! From a purely selfish perspective, I'm merely thinking of my ever increasing electricity bill! LOL.

I came across the Eheim Ecco range when I was looking for more 16/22mm hose on the net this morning.

I think running x2 Ecco 300's would meet the turnover requirements in my Ozzie aquarium okay, I just wondered how well they performed in comparison to the standard Eheims.

Technical data EHEIM ecco pro 300:
- product type: 2036020
- for aquariua from 160 up to 300 litres
- Power consumption: 230 V/ 50 Hz 8 W
- Pump output: 750 l/h
- Pump head: 1,9 m
- Filter volume 2.8 l + 0.3 l (prefilter)
- Canister volume: 5.0 l
- Dimensions: 205 x 416 mm ( diameter x height)

I've a 75G aquarium at the mo and run x2 external filters. I was contempating switching to running two of the above instead. They would halve my wattage per hour.

having two of that at 75G tank will give you a X5.2 turn over,
not good enough to cope with messy oscar fish. that rate will be
reduced further when filter media started to accumulate more
gunk and dirt.

can you give me the rating of the other unit: wattage and flowrate

Eheim Pro 2: 20W and pump output 950lph
Eheim 2217: 20W and pump output 1000lph

with that given data, your Ecco pro 300 is more efficient at
24.35 gal/watt rate while E-pro 2 give you 12.33 gal/watt; and
E-2217 give 12.98gal/watt.

i am using a pump rated at 32.80 gal/watt, that is 2400LPH
at 19 watts @ 2.2 meter TDH; or the common power head at
2200LPH at 19W rating.

Blimey, that's good compared with mine. Dare I ask what you use?
