First off, before anyone tells me to check Paul's thread here on this site or the others you guys have generously posted, I already have done so. I was simply curious as to how If anyone besides Paul has had a successful attempt at this, I am currently pushing a 155 Gal aquarium. Interesting Idea, I would love to look into.

I thought about it when I started looking into having my 300 gallon tank built. I thought about having an indoor pond with lots of plants. Then I thought about it a little more and dismissed the idea as being just too much work. At the end of the day this type of project is probably only worthwhile doing as an experiment, something that you want to achieve, rather than it being an efficient way of maintaining an aquarium. Okay, you may save yourself having to carry out lots of water changes, however it's still going to involve quite a lot of work maintaining the plant life. Just my opinion

Oh no, no, I totally agree about the experiment part. I am merely seeking information specifically because of the possibilities.

in the near future, i will be re-establishing my aquaponics project
and will divulge more on plants that give good yields during my
experimentation. this will be properly documented and will be
submitted to our local government for further study if it can
be implemented in a bigger scale funded by their countryside
development fund (CDF). i am not eager to work with the corrupt
government but will push through the project for my self fulfillment.

I always thought an aquaponics project would be cool. But here in my old-as-dirt house in the very wet and cold Pacific Northwest, I don't think it'd be a good idea. My house already has a mold and mildew issue during the winter, I think aquaponics would just add to it. I'd have to run like 3 de-humidifiers just to keep the moisture in the house down, and then I think that would require MORE refilling of the tank, it'd be a never ending cycle!!

Good luck with it Cellin, and Paul. Let us know how it goes!!
If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy?

I think aquaponics are only worth pursuing if you live in a sunny warm climate. that way you can divert the water outside and pump it back inside. anything else is a waste of time and effort. the cost for lighting space needed etc makes it too much effort to be bothered with. you would get better results from a Deltec nitrate filter.

that is exactly my advantage marcus.... i live in a tropics. i can even make an
extra tank where i can have the filtration system.....
