When i set up my first tank about 2 yrs ago i was sold something called chemzorb, i think made by API to put in my filter to absorb any tannins that get released by drift wood which didnt come out while i was sinking the wood. The product worked great but i removed it from my filter because it had been there over a year. I now noticed that by the end of the week my tank is not quite a crystal clear as it is right after water cahnge and think that it must be the tannins as my water is always in top condition. I have been doing some research and and came across 2 products that that seem to do the same thing.

First is ChemZorb by API which is what i have used before with good results

and the second is Purigen by Seachem which is twice the price but the say it can be recharged back to almost full capacity by usuing bleach which would save money in the long run.

Just wondering if anyone had any experience with either product????? can any of these products have any negitve effects on my tank?

after a year you shouldnt really have any tannins, have you tried boiling it a couple of times, or if its two big put in the bath over night in hot water for a couple of days, this should remove any tannis that is left, as this is what i did, and i dont have to use any thing in my water as ive no leaks of tannis ,

as Kazzy said after a yr the tannin should have gone. its normal for it to last a few months but not a yr??? has it been in the tank all the time? if you removed it for any time the tannin does come back. also are you sure its the tannin that's discolouring the water? i personally like the brown effect it gives and it wouldn't bother me.

I thought the tannins should have gone now aswell, and yeh its just a slight brown colour. The bits have been in and out of the tank a few times over the 2 yrs but both been in there for pretty much 1 year. Im also about to add a new piece of wood in a few weeks, its just soaking in my bath at the monent and thought i could get it in the tank a little quicker if these products wouldnt have any negitive affect on my tank.
