I ordered 2 of these before I knew I was getting the 140 US Gallon Acrylic tank. I was going to use one on my 55G glass and one on my 60G glass, but I have taken down the 55 and initially thought I would use it on my 140 acrylic tank, but as I am cleaning it to put it in the tank I have had a "change of heart". I am worried this will scratch the acrylic.

Does anyone have any experience on using floating magnets on Acrylic tanks?

I very much doubt they will scratch the acrylic on your tank, they are made in a way that they will not do this. The only magnetic scrapers that you've got to be careful of are the ones that have a blade in them.

I received an algae scraper just this morning, it is made by Fish r Fun. It is the largest one I could find and will do up to 16 mm thick glass, boy has it got some strong magnets.

It is like this one, but much larger

thanks for the feedback Penn.

I have tried to google this issue also, and from what I have found it should be fine as long as no sand/ or small gravel gets stuck in between the magnet and the inside of glass.

I just am trying to be extra cautious with my acrylic because i know it can scratch easily.

Thanks again!
