I have used quick cycle chemicals before with good results. But its never going to replace a fully cycled filter over 6wks. you stand more chance of the system crashing with a quick fix, but as long as you start your stocking level sensibly you will be ok. what size tank are you using and how do you plan to start stocking it??

for stocking levels you mention you need a much larger tank to keep them successfully. the 2 oscars need 100g+ and SD's need to be kept in groups of 5 so I would say you need 150g(uk) minimum. for a tank this size you need filters and heating to match.

i would have moved this post to tanks/filter/heating. for a better response but for some reason I don't have access to move it. you should still get good response here )).

lol i have a 55 gal tank and they are only little at this point in time and the filtration system is for a 350L tank so
it is well filterd and i clean every 4 or 5 days so i take every step possible to keep the tank free of toxins
but when they hit 5" or 7" i will buy bigger tank but the funds department are lacking so i might have to
buy another 4ft tank to house my other oscar if nessecary =]

BTS has set in with Benno.
Bigger Tank Syndrome is a common disease with oscarfishlovers...
and hard to cure, if not ,impossible!
I have 6 Silver dollars and 2 Oscars, and 150Gl is really not too big for them, and mine are not full grown yet. SD's grow very fast in the first year too!
