My oscar is in a 30gal with a 30 gal topfin filter that pumps 150galper/h. Im goingto move him into a 55gal in january when i move.

My question is what can use instead of carbon and should i add my extra 10gal topfin filter to my tank to help filter? The petstore people said it might be to much pressure to the tank and i shouldnt do that but then i read that you need double the filter for an oscar.

Ive read about BioMax and people talk about media???? how do i go about setting up the bioMax and what not instead of the carbon bag??

my filter looks like this but is for a 30 gal www.petsmart.com/product/zoom/index.jsp?productId=2752295

Yes, at the moment you are keeping your Oscar in a tank that is really meant for small community fish. If you are getting a 55 gallon tank then the only thing I would use your existing filters for is to seed your new filter which you will need for the 55 gallon tank. Basically, when your new tank is setup, take some media out of your old filter and put it in the new filter, this will introduce some bacteria which will kickstart your system, thus speeding up the cycling process.

If you are serious about keeping oscars then you should be looking at the canister filter to go with your 55 gallon tank. Something like a Flavel 405. Obviously this is just an example of a setup that would work and give you adequate filtration for the size of tank containing an adult o. Replace the carbon with biological media.

But is it okay to add my other 10gal filter to my 30gal tank which already has a 30gal filter running?

any additional filtration will help on a tank that small.
But i say get some oversized filter and put it on the 30Gl tank allready.
You 'll hav that filter cycled when you transfer to the big tank.
Ón a 55Gl we recommend a flowrate of 2-5 times of the whole volume of thet ank per hour.
I love a strong flowrate and so do my fish, plus thetank stays very, vey clear.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
