I know I sound a bit like a senior for asking this but how and where do I upload a video? do I just put it on youtube then post the link as a new thread?

Yes, the easiest way to add one of your videos to a post is to create a YouTube account and then host all your videos. All you do then simply paste the fall URL into your post, no need for any video tags.
