jags and oscars can be kept together without too much incident until the jags starts to mature. i found, in my experiences with any parachromis species, that while young they can be a little on the "pussy" side, if you know what i mean.
however when the get to about the 7-10 inch mark their true colours tend to really start to shine through. by nature they are an aggressive species that can be relentless in their bullying. add to that the pseudo canines they possess and you will have fish that can dispatch a tankmate with ease if it so chooses.
now there is always the different personalities that cichlids have and you might get one that is calm and mellow for its entire life or you might get one that will not tolerate any mates at all.
personally i wouldnt risk my oscars in the same tank as a mature jag just in case the jag "snaps" and decides he would rather be the only resident of your aquarium.......
