hey i saw on this site that good tank mates for oscars are silver dollars well i went to my local retailer and bought a couple only to wake up this morning and find them dissapeared!"!!!!! not impressed at all!!!!!! there is a plec 2 clown loaches in the tank with him @ the mo so i thought it would be ok as my tank is 48 x 24 x 18,,, help me plz!!!!!!

I suppose the key question is, how big were the silver dollars?

I've got three silver dollars and they are fantastic little fish. Research any fish you get, quite often, fish will quite happily eat other fish given the chance, especially Oscars. Even clown Loach have a carnivorous side and will definitely eat live fish if the opportunity comes their way.

haha. help? what u want us to bring them back? the silver dollars where obviously way to small if they were eaten whole. either that or they jumped out or suttin

Sorry to hear you lost your silver dollars, sounds like they got eaten, how big were they and how big is your oscar. The golden rule with fish (and this applies for most fish, even mollies will eat tiny baby fish) is if it can fit in a fishes mouth it will try to eat it! Get some bigger ones next time or put them in a smaller tank until they are big enough. Silver dollars grow reasonable quick if fed a good diet with plenty of food

thanks any way tho!!!! the were a decent size too not babys and they couldn have jumped out of the tank as my hood is a tight fit!!

they were quite big mind you sunks but then again my oscar aint no baby he is huge

They can get to be the size of your hand and you need them to be nearly that size with a large oscar
