Hi all!
I'm a newbee when it comes to tanks and fish so I would like to take an advanatage from this forum and ask you something:-)
Currently I have a 450l. tank with 2 gold fish. My boyfriend bought this tank for oscars- he wants to buy 6 small oscars...and here my question pops out-
Is it possible that oscars won't kill my fish? and If they will be at loggerheads with my goldfish- Will I see earlier that something is wrong?-'cos I would take me fish out-I don't want them to die:(

BTW, My boyfriend is buying these dark blue ones
Greetings from Poland
and I hope that you will be able to help me:(

Welcome to the site. Your tank is okay for one Oscar and probably a couple of small tankmates. It definitely isn't big enough for six Oscars. As for your goldfish, I would strongly advise you to rehome them if you intend on keeping Oscars in this tank. Goldfish are incredibly messy fish as well as being cold water as well. Members of the carp family which include Goldfish can grow quite big in a short space of time when caps in warmer climates. You'll only end out the problems if you do keep the goldfish together with the Oscar

Hello neighbour!

I agree with Penn, not such a great idea to mix coldwater fish with tropicals. Goldfish can stand a warmer temperature as well for a while but doesn't do them any good. How big are they anyway? Some people just buy goldfish as food for Oscars, which I wouldn't do neither, but Oscars tend to eat anything that fits into their mouthes.

As it has been said, 450l will be fine for one Oscar, two at max, not 6. So if your boyfriend wants to get 6 babies to get a pair, you'll have to find new homes for at least 4 of them at some point. What do you mean with "dark blue ones", btw? Oscars are normally not blue, if they are, they are probably artificially died, which is a cruel process and won't last anyway if the fish survive for longer at all. Just thought I'd mention that. Or do you mean rather black/dark slate gray Oscars?

Greetings from Germany!
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

Oscar will eat anything that can fit in their mouth so it depends on the size of the goldfish, remember oscar grow real quick, but as already said goldfish shouldnt really be kept in warmer water

Dont buy blue oscars as they have probably been dyed, a barbaric practice that doesnt do the fish any good, it can shorten their lives and also it doesnt always last. Check the site out for the various types/colours of oscars that are not artificial
