TOPIC: Oscars out - Oscar in

Oscars out - Oscar in 1 year, 8 months ago #115501

I rehomed the three large Oscars that I inherited with a 75g. Now I only have two Plecos in there that I purchased about 3 weeks ago - a L114 Leopard Cactus and a L37 Honeycomb. Each are about 5" TL.

I want to get a baby O, 2 Clown Loaches, 1 Pictus Catfish, 2 Clown Loaches and move in 1 baby Jack Dempsey from my other 75g.

Do you think that should work out? Or would you suggest other alternative fish?

The tank is cycled (obviously) and ready for new occupants.

I would stick with the plecos and just ONE Oscar in your 75g as this would be stretching your bioload still...Never put pictus catfish with Oscars as Oscars have a tendency to eat pictus cats when they are adults.
Pictus catfish have spines and will become lodged in your Oscars throat and both fish can die. Just my opinion

Agree with staffie on this one.

Also, you are gonna run into some issues most likely with an oscar and a JD in an overstocked setup. JD's can be quite aggressive and baby oscars don't mix too well (even if the JD is still a youngster as well) i.e. you might end up with one dead oscar there.

Just stick with the plecs and the oscar...once he hits 10-12 inches within the first year you'll find that he'll more than fill out that 75 gallon nicely, and your tank maintenance etc. will be much easier.

I aggree with the guys.
One O will be enough bioload with the 2 plecos, especially if you give them all the love they need...food that is!
Your tank will seem smaller in no time, once your oscar grows into his environment.

btw I'd love to see some pictures of the plecos!
Pseudacanthicus have my special interrest and are my favorite plecos.
They grow slow but will become BIG eventually.
How long have you had yours?
My pleco-dealer had one specimen that took 12 years to grow to adult size, and he had him for 15 years after that...
Keeping a fish for 27 years is an incredible job, if you ask me.
One day, maybe...
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

Hmmmm, I appreciate the thoughts. Okay I'll rethink putting the JD in the 75g with two 350 Penguin filters. I would like another fish swimming around with the O. The Plecs just don't come out often enough to be able to enjoy them all the time. I thought I'd read JD's were good companions for O's.

Here are pics of the plecos. I have some others in differnt tanks.

I appreciate what your saying but if you have already made your mind up and dont care what we have to say on the matter then what was the point in posting it?

Plecos are very messy fish...once again...Add One Oscar and the plecos ONLY!

Or Oscar and JD....ONLY!

I have a L128 Blue Phantom in a 100 gal and he makes enough mess himself....
