EELS? 4 years ago #13070

Another tank mate i was wondering..an eel maybe? I found a few that only grow to 24 inches and i have PLENTY of rock for them to hide in. Any suggestions on that. I am just looking for something odd...or different to put in the tank that will co-exist with the oscars!!

before you start thinking about getting any more fish, you should really have a look at what you already have in your tank. Oscars can reach in excess of 12 inches, silver dollars around 6 inches maximum, not sure about the pink convict, maybe 6 inches, depending on what sort of pleco you have, you could be talking around 2 feet. And finally the tinfoil barb. I absolutely hate these fish, they can grow to 12 inches, they eat everything you put in the tank, and they're incredibly messy.

Personally, I think you're little overstocked as you are so I wouldn't put any more fish in your tank. If I was in your position, I would lose the pleco and the tinfoil barb. Monitor the water conditions for a while and if you really want something different, choose something that doesn't get any bigger than 6 inches. Unfortunately, you are looking at getting big fish, if you want big fish, you've got to get a big tank, much bigger than what you've already got.

Well I if you want a small eel a zig zag eel would be good. They're small only reaching around 7 inches. But I would make sure he has plenty of hiding for you have quite a bit of fish in there already. I hope you realize that eels like to hide and with so many other fish you might not see him much but they aren't picky about water parameters.

Eels being long and thin might get eaten by the oscar. Oscars will eat anything that will fit in its mouth
