hi everyone i am looking to introduce a male salvini chiclid in with my oscars who are about 3 inches at the moment. should i be looking to get a small salvini, juvinile? adult? i know my oscars will quicly outgrow the salvini, but for the time being to make sure everyone gets along what size am i looking for? any other advice for keeping my salvini and oscars in harmony?

I'm not sure how fast salvini chiclids grow. I think they can reach around 9 inches but probably wouldn't get that big. I have never come across any cichlid that grows as quickly as an Oscar so I would probably advise you to try and find one that is that these big enough that it's not going to get eaten, anything above 3 inches will be okay

Take note that salvini cichlids can be very aggressive and males will reach eight inches.

I agree get one about 3 inches. They dont grow very fast and if you get a small one it might end up as oscar lunch

i agree with the 3 in size but be aware that salvani can get extremly aggressive so keep an eye on things. as he grows he could pose a problem to your oscar

You neglected to tell us that your tank is only 90 gallons and you have four Oscars. If I'd known this at the very beginning, I would have told you that adding any more fish is an absolute no-no. In fact, your tank is barely big enough for two Oscars. I appreciate that they are only small at the moment and your tank probably looks perfectly okay. However, you 3 inch Oscars could be 8 inches plus within the year. I can tell you now that your tank will not cope with the amount of waste that these fish will produce. If you do keep your Oscars then you will not be able to maintain the required water quality when they reach adulthood.

What will happen is you will start noticing that ammonia is present and nitrate levels are soaring. Then one day, you will notice small holes appearing around the head region of your Oscar/Oscars. Please take this as a friendly warning because I've been there and I've got the T-shirt to prove it.
