im not really thinking about doing this as im thinking turtles cant be kept with fish. i am just curiius to find out if it is possible to keep turtles with an oscar?

it would be interesting to find out if any one has tried this out:)

however if i found out that a turtle would live with oscar 100% fine i would prob look into it more lol

personally, I wouldn't, the Oscars will probably have fun chasing and having a go at the turtles. They could quite easily remove a flipper. Turtles are also very messy creatures as well so you could have water quality issues. I advise you to do one or the other, but not mix, remember both these creatures have their own special needs

Hi, I have a 4ft tank in which I have 2 oscars, 3 terrapins and 1 large pleco catfish.

I got all of them at the same time when they were all small, now live in a very happy tank oscars love to steal the terrapins food as they are much quicker!

Have had a few minor scuffles but no one has got hurt yet, been going for about 9 months.

But I would only recommend doing it this way, if you put in small oscars with big turtles or small turtles with big oscars then someone is going to get eaten!

Water quality is an issue as everyone in the tank could crap for England, especially now they are all getting a fair bit bigger.

I do a 50% water change every week and have a fairly industrial filter system, but as I said above no issues so far.

Hope that helps.

your fortunate you have had no water quality issues so far. however im sure that will change soon. a 60 gallon tank isnt really large enough for 2 oscars let alone housed with a large pleco and and 3 turtles. i would keep a close eye on the water parameters and try to formulate a plan on what to do when things start to go south in your tank.

Not sure where you got your 60 litres from, I agree that would be a little small, I have a 300 litre tank which seems to do the trick so far, but I still pretty sure I'll need something bigger within a year or 2, considering relegating the terrpains to a garden pond when they get bigger but not really sure they could cope with the cold water.

Also have a spare 200 litre tank for emergencies, old one of my dads, looks tired but still keeps the water in.

Thanks for advice/concern though.

Ok maybe next time I will read it properly first, 60 gallons sounds about right, but still seems to be big enough at the moment.

Must say I'm rather jealous of your 190 gallon tank, thats a monster!! Going to have to save me pennies for one of those.

as i said you'll be fine for a while but you can expect problems to arise as the bio load increases as your fish continue to grow.

and theres no need to be jealous because i have to upgrade again this time is the last though and its going to be to a border line monster tank in the 270 gallon range not quite as big as i want but unfortunatly i dont have the room to go bigger.

for awhile i had a turtle (Red-Eared Slider) with my oscars. they can be really mean. the turtle was chasing the oscars. they bite hard. not a good mix.......another thing is that water turtles require a "dry place" with lights. can be difficult to provide in a tank filled with water:)

I was just looking into tankmates for my son's 2x Red Eared Sliders. The site I was on actually said Oscars are possible tankmates. I quit there and came here. Once again a legit answer. Them turtles take alot of care like oscars. Both in 1 tank seemed to be a nightmare. Heres the page...

personnaly i wouldnt put an oscar with a turtle. both are very messy and i beleive it would be difficult to keep the water in good shape with these two species together. but thats just my opinion.
