Hello, I have a 150 G tank, with a community setup, and i REALLY want to get some more Oscars, so anyway im going to remove the larger fish (angels, gouramis) and leave two large-ish silver dollars (about 4 inches) in the tank, i also have a red tailed black shark that is about 4 inches, do u think that it could stay in the tank?

Any way, I have a schoal of red eye tetras, and i was thinking of leaving them in the tank and the oscar can eat them as he gets older, the only reason being is that i cant find a home for them, i have rang a few lfs' and no-one really wants them, i have found homes for the large angels and gouramis etc.

So do you think this would work? Or would the Oscars just wear himself out trying to catch them when he is too small to eat them?

Also would 2 Oscars and maybe two Blue Acaras plus the silver dollars be too much for the tank when they are all fully grown?

Any advice is most appreciated! Great site also!

It is almost certain that once your Tetras fit in your Oscars mouth, they will be gone. If healthy, I see no problems with that.

As for stocking, 150gal tank as yours should handle the bio-load you propose if you provide excellent filtration and keep a healthy maintenance routine. You can keep the pair of Blue Acara and increase the number of Silver Dollars to at least five so they school together. If your red tail shark is already full grown, I see no major threats for him; otherwise it may become an expensive snack to your Oscars.

Like pepe says if your filters up to it the amount of fish should be fine. the blues grow to around 6.5" thats not to large. as for the tetras they will soon become food sooner or later. with the fish amounts pepe advise your maintaince wouldnt be anything you cant cope with.

with your tank size, you can have school of fishes in it.
increasing the capacity of filtering system will lessen the
the cleaning workload. your new oscar would love chasing those
tetras.

your idea is sound to me. the oscars might eat the tetras in time but then again they might not. i have four relatively large oscars(12 11 9 and 7 inches) and they live with a 3 inch acara two 2 inch convict hybrids and a 5 inch redtail shark. my o's have never tried to eat any of the fish i have introduced into their tank(maybe because i have never fed them feeders)
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

maybe yes necromancer4. but believe me, if you forget to feed them
or once they become hungry, those small species will be good meals for
your oscar. the redtail shark is a fast swimmer, it can easily escape
the attack. how ever, those slow swimmer have a high risk. how long
had been together in tank?

Excellent, thank you very much for the tips. I have a big canister, not sure of the capicity, or gallons per hour rating, though i will check this out before stocking the tank with the big cichlids I also have two enternal power filters for added circulation and mechanical filtration.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply to my questions, im getting rid of the angels etc on the weekend and will remove some rocks etc and get my Oscars and Acaras in a week or so, I cant wait!!!!!

Thanks again
