ok basically, my chocolate cichlid has been attacked by another cichlid i had in the tank which i have gotten rid of now, so the chocolate cichlid has battle scars all over him and is moping in a corner of the tank at the bottom breathing slowly, iv put some stress coat in which should help him heal up a bit quicker, but do you think he will be alright? im not sure if i can do anything else to help him out. cheers

Blake

p.s ill be chuckin a pic of him up in a minute

Hi Blake32:

For battle injuries, keeping pristine water parameters with daily partial water changes (ammonia 0, nitrites 0, and nitrates at least in the 10-20ppm range), lights out 24/7, steady temp (below 76F most opportunistic bacteria usually grow significantly slower than at higher temps), and sparingly but more frequent feeding -if possible use protein rich (for tissue replacement) and spyrulina based (for immune protection) as fish food for now, avoid live foods- that combination might prevent opportunistic infections to complicate your Chocolate Cichlid health.

Post pics if possible. Cichlids tend to be resilient to battle injuries.

He dose look a bit tatty, but oscars are very strong fish, I had one leave my tank, hit side of glass, bounce across top of tank and get burnt on light and finely get hit by me trying to catch it. it looked far worst but cos good water condition healed very well. It should heal ok. just keep an eye for infection and keep water in good shape.

the wounds on your chocolat look to be very superficial. like pepe said just keep your water in pristine condition(nitrates at 20 or below) and he should heal up relativly quickly.
btw what kind of cichlid did this to him? and oh ya nice looking tiger

hi Blake32, this is just my own opinion. base on
my experience with another aquarium having different
specie, when someone is infected with rotten fin,it is
being attacked by almost all other fish. i believe the
attack with you chocolate ciclid is not just an ordinary
attack. there must be some reason why it is the only one
being attacked. i suggest you isolate it temporarily until
fully recovered. this is also true with fan tail gold fish.
medication is a must against rotten fin/scale
dont know what kind,
