I never stop learning here. Now I have to look for barramundi fish which I have no clue about.

Edit:
Are you keeping this in a pond? I just saw a picture of one specimen 4 feet long!

Temperament wise they seem compatible; same as with temperature range. Beautiful animal, Australia doesn't cease to amaze me.

I couldn't find info on their natural habitat pH and GH ranges.

They'd probably be compatable for a while, but the barras grow fast and they get HUGE!!! (I've seen many over a metre long) Have you ever been barra fishing? They are monsters! They will eat anything too, the big barras eat the little barras too. How big is your oscar? Would hate to see him get eaten, which seriously the barras would if they got big enough!

If you want another australian fish, which seems to go quite well with an oscar, which does get big enough not be eaten and won't eat you oscar, the tandanus tandanus the eel tailed catfish is OK. They can get big too (2foot) but won't get 4-6feet like the barra, they are very easy fish to look after too.

we were free diving and one was attracted to the rope he was over a meter. once it got to big i would probley get rid of it, my oscars are about 6" long. i can get tiny barra like 2". barra are jus an awesome fish so quick, and native to aus!

You're right, they are awesome fish. If you have somewhere to move it too after it got too big it would probably be OK.

Would love to do a aussie native fish tank! There are some pearlers out there aren't there? Lucky we have such great fish I think.

if your tank is 5000 gallons + they should be fine.

otherwise, forget it.

as pepe said he never stop learning here, so i surf
and look what is this barramundi fish. gosh, indeed,
i know this specie. it is locally known here in my place
as APAHAP. would you believe that whenever 5 to 10 pieces
of them been able to mixed up with milkfish and shrimp in
a 1 hectare fishpond, the 10,000 fingerlings will be lost
or totally consummed in 120 days. come harvest season, no
more fish and shripm in the block. we, the pond keepers
normally will try to catch them using lure as early as posible,
otherwise, no harvest. now i know they are called barramundi.
