i have 2 oscars 1 about 4 inches the other about 3, they are in a 6 foot tank, ive put in 2 green severums both about 3 inches....one of the oscars seems to have a go at them both, the other oscar isnt bothered by them, the oscar thats havin a go is not doing it consantly just occasionally, does this spell trouble? or is it just because the severums are new to the tank, i only put them in today. any advice would be gratefull, thanks.

Welcome to the site

For a start, I keep green severums with my Oscars. Like a lot of cichlids, Oscars can have a nasty side to them. It is not uncommon for an Oscar to bully other fish in their tank. As long as they don't cause physical damage, I should just leave them as they are and monitor the situation. You'll probably find everything will settle down after a few days and the Oscars will just get on with their own lives. I totally disagree with people who label Oscars as vicious fish. That is absolute crap, the majority of them are quite placid and as long as you don't put anything too small in with them, you are okay.

i second on that OFL, oscar can co-exist with those
slow moving specie. some hobbyist could not imagine that
i have a 5" angel fish together with my two 15" O's.

yeah, youd be surprised what you could add in with os.

ive heard nothing but great things for severums as oscar tankmates, my next round of fish will be just that. youll be just fine, just setup some nice caves for them to hide in. the os might pick on them alittle, but they wont go hunting for them either. so id say, you've got not a thing to worry about

A tried and true combination. In with my two Tiger Oscars I have two Heros Severum -one Green, the other one Gold, same species- as well as two couples of Convicts. My tank is 121UK gal (145USgal).

First couple of months the Gold Severum ruled the tank. They conquered one side of the tank and the Tiger Oscars settled for the opposite side. At times they both intrude in each other spaces but no one gets really hurt; at times there's no inter-species mingling but then out of the blue I spot them swimming together, the latter has been happening less frequently as they mature.

When I got my Tiger Oscars they were 5 and 3.5 inches long. Now they are 12 and 11. My Severums were 5 and 3.5" -both have grown way slower than the Oscars, and likely measure 7" each.

Yes, they can. Because Green Severum don't have bad temper.

i keep a gold geverum with my o whos twice his size and the sev is the dominant fish my o just moves out of his way theres no dammage at all to them its just a dominance thing ...my severums hard as a stone and much more agressive than my o people confuse the o,s frensied feeding with agression but they are two entirely different traits of the o,s nature
