depends on their size, oscar can easily break shell of
an snail, thus, probability is high that it will end up
as good meal.

a pleco,s ok as long as your tanks big enough???? but the snails in my experience just get smashed open and dragged all around the tank

plecos make good tankmates for oscar however they also produce a huge bioload in the tank. also the common or sailfin pleco can grow to lenghs in excess of 20 inches so huge tanks are required if you want to keep them. some varieties of plecos dont grow as big but can be harder to find at your lfs and may have to be ordered in for you.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

the large pleco would go great, but only if you have a really big tank. some of those smaller ones are extremely expensive, but also very pretty. theres 2 smaller sized plecos that ive seen around lfs that arent quite as expensive. brittlenose or busy nose plecos and clown plecos. the clowns are said to require driftwood to eat algae that would grow on it.

I made the mistake of buying 3 2" common plecos. That was in march - I've just given them back to the fish shop at roughly 8" I had them in with my oscars but these things produce huge amounts of waste. I bought them without doing my homework and would never do that again!! (fish shop said 20cm not 20")

I have 2 tiger plecs in another tank and there is no way I would put them in with the o's they are 3"-4" max and cost £20 each I like my oscars but that's like serving them caviar. From what I've found there seems to be either big plecos or small ones (big ones too big etc)

I have a Banjo cat gets to a max of about 6" and can handle himself. Very pretty fish but they are nocturnal
350 ltr corner tank - 2 tiger oscars 5\\\\\\\" + 7\\\\\\\" 2 Geophagus Sp and a Banjo Cat
2 x 110 ltrs for gouramis, neons etc (to please the mrs)
1 X 110 ltr 2 x 4\\\\\\\" Blue acaras + lotsa babies

Most of the plecos that are readily available in fish shops are the ones I get very big. They don't cost much which is why people buy them. You'll also find that many of them get returned when people realise just how big they get.

There are absolutely loads of species of plecos. Some of them don't get much bigger than 6 inches. A lot of these are very expensive and you have to shop around. If you really want one of these fish, I would advise you not to go for the ones that get very big. This photo is a very good example of what you could end up with in two or three years.

Bad call for the snail but not the pleco as long it is a large pleco like a leopard pleco but snails are one of the prey of the Astronotus ocellatus.

but i had bad feelings with the pleco too. i hate
those specie because of some irresponsible hobbyist
who release them in our body of fresh water. they are
now being considered as menace in our local waters and
marshland. (you can search : janitor fish at Laguna Lake,
Philippines)
