The honeymoon is over after 1 wk for my 91/2" Tiger O. I bought him 3- 3 1/2" Silver Dollars after I gave up the 10" Pleco. 55gal tank all perimeters on water good. He would even sit on the bottom with them and watch all of us in the room. Thank goodness I have a 29 gal Hex w/ a Tetra family, I have moved the SD into the tall tank. Has anyone else had a T O turn on these guys..thanks.

I think you were pushing your luck mixing those small dollars with a large Oscar. I would imagine that at some stage the silver dollars luck would have run out on the Oscar would have got them. I think you were sensible to remove them from the tank. When they get to a size where the Oscars can't eat them, you could try introducing them again. I've got silver dollars and my Oscars don't bother with them at all, mind you they are quite big

You've got to be careful what you mix with Oscars. As a rule of thumb, 4 inches is about the minimum you want to mix with Oscars, and even then they may go after it since their eyes are bigger than their belly

i am not sure but tetras are know for fin and scale nipper. i understand that SD swim fast but tetras are persistent chaser, i hope you won't have that problem too.

Ok. Can I ask what you feed your S D? I am using a mix of Cichild mini bite size, Cichlid staple mini, Cichild Gold med, tropical flakes. I change it up and give them a little of these am & pm. I don't like a dirty tank so I only give what they will eat. I find my self watching to see that all 3 SD's have eaten.

Well the Tetra family has moved out of there hex home. The Silver dollars were trying to take bites out of the Tetra's as they swam by. I happen to be near the tank when I saw the jaws open and clamp down. Silvers must have Piranha in there genes.

Hi,

My oscar grew up with the 6 silver dollars I have.
There is NO stress whatsoever between them.
When I clean my tank they all "cuddle-up" in the corner of my tank.
The SD seem to "faint" when stressed. They all lay down sideways to the glass.
But once again, they grew up together and are getting big!
My NA sunfish is more of a threat, he keeps on bugging and chasing them from time to time.

thanks, my 10" O is in the 55gal alone, I'm growing my 3 SD's to over 4" and the plan is to put them all back together. I am waiting on a 75gal which will be even better.
