i am looking into the possibility of purchasing a juv silver arowana to keep, and grow up with, my juv albino and tiger oscars, iv done some research and heard lots of people do keep these together.
does anyone here have any arowna experience? and thus have any advice on keeping them? or even keeping away from them as the case may be?!
Cheers
Matt

im not overly versed on aros but i do know that they grow rather large like 3-4 feet for certain subspecies. they are also jumpers so a tight secure lid is a neccesity. they can be good tankmates for oscars provided you have a huge tank and adequate filtration for the job.
i also beleive that they are carnivorous and should be fed a diet of live prey.
also, if you do get one, you should be sure that your oscars are big enough not to be seen as food.

The #1 rule for aros is keeping them IN the tank. These guys are jumpers! Every sings INCH of the tank must be covered, or he'll be on the floor. Otherwise, they're pretty easy to keep.

Bearing in mind you already have two Oscars, do you think you're going to be able to house a tank big enough for an arrowana as well? don't forget we're talking fish that can reach 3 feet, 24 inches in captivity quite easily. I've seen juvenile arrowana at around 4 inches and I can understand why people want them. However if you can't provide the space, then don't even contemplate getting one.

one thing that make me not wanting to have an arowana is that
with limited space, you could only have one fish. i do not
want to live alone, thus i can not appreciate a solitary
arowana in a tank.

Yeah I don't like the silver, and if i ever got the cash it would be a red for me. I have seen some very nice reds £6000. But i wouldn't even want to spend that for the tank with fish.)))) I would be happy to buy a small baby and grow it to £6000. worth.)))) I have a very large house but a strong minded, house proud wife so the room for my fish is limited.
