Hi guys,

getting a 5x2x2 in a few days, and i have a 20 CM Oscar which will be in there.

I was wondering what are my options for fish?

How many oscars could i put in?

Could i have 1 Oscar, and a breeding pair of Jack Dempsey?

Could i have 1 Oscar, and a breeding pair of GT?

Could i have 2 Oscar, and one GT or Jack?

Im not sure what else good cichlids there are out.

I do 20% water change every week and 1050 L/P ehiem filter. Thats what i can commit to maintenance.

first off i would forget the breeding pairs. all species when breeding become very aggressive and the choices you have posted would hurt your oscar when fry are present. for only single specimens the jack and gt might work (depending on the fish) and you can probably put one more mid sized fish in there with them, like a sal or a geo.

let us know what you finally pick.

that is approx. 147 US or 125 Imp gal tank. if your direction
is to have different specie of cichlid, go as necro had suggested.
breeding pair of any kind invites trouble for others.

How bout a breeding pair of oscars and thats it.

if your direction is to breed, yes. the presence of other specie
are treated as intruder making the parents eats their eggs; or
the other way around, the intruders eat the eggs of others.
plecs are known for that attitude.

yes, it works for me. although when my pairs stays with the pangs, i just remove the eggs and
hatch artificially....

yes sir....oscar alone or any other specie of their own to make it works.

the first thing you need to do if you want to breed oscars is find a way to get rid of all the fry you will eventually have. this is the hardest part of breeding.

as for tank size a 125 is large enough to breed oscars.
