Just wondering if it would be a bad idea to add a new 6inch Oscar in with my current 10inch+ Oscar????
My O lives in a 4 foot 350 liter tank with a ghost knife, featherfin catfish, bristlenose and a red tail shark.
Over the weekend i will be setting up my new 6foot 540 liter tank and transfering my fish to the new tank. I will be using my current filter and as much existing tank water as possible so i dont have to wait for it to cycle.
to make it practical, you could add equivalent or a little less fresh water in it as if you had just change your water.
I was in my LFS today and noticed the had a juvenile oscar about 6inches. I used to have 2 oscars, they gew up together but when they reached puberty they started to fight really bad so i had to get rid of one, that was about 2 or 3 months ago. I kept the most aggressive one who was winning the fight and i'm guessing they were both boys due to the fighting.
Do u think it would be a good idea to try add a new oscar? My guess is its a 50/50 chance that the new one is female and the will get on.
I was thinking i could pick up the new guy the morning i plan to change tanks and add him to the tank first the add my old oscar after the new guy has settled in a bit?
this would be the most appropriate time to reintroduce new tankmate. your big o will also feel the new environment.
Whilst the tank change over is happening my fish will be in buckets and plastic containers with air stones, dont think i will need heaters in with them while this is happening because i liven in anpartment and is alway warm inside.
What to you guys think....i was planning on doing this tommorrow or Sunday....short notice i know
having the same tank water in the bucket, 2 to 3 hours with out heater won't harm your fish.
