Ok you guys have the healthiest oscars I have ever seen and are a wealth of information. So with that said in my 120 gallon 48"×24"×24" what can I house with one oscar? Here is what I'm thinking.
1- 4 line pictus
1- firemouth
1- jack Dempsey
And of course the oscar.

No to the JD, not enough footprint for 2 territorial fish of considerable size. Pictus may be eaten or at least killed in the attempt. Firemouth could work if Oscar lets it. Get the biggest FM you can find. Still no guarantee.

SD do best as a group of 5 or more.. you dont have room. Your volume is good, the 4ft length not so much. I think I may have mentioned this to you before... keep a single Oscar alone in there, you could have a real fine specimen.

I have my o(Sarge) in a 4 foot tank by himself. I tried various tank mates.he pretty much tried to kill them all. Its a 90gal so not as much volume as yours. The pictus could cause some damage with those spines to. I did have the most luck with a striped Raphael catfish(gotta be big enough not to be swallowed) they have pretty good armor but not really pokey spines

Sarge still tried to kill the Raphael eventually he picked him up and started smashing him against the glass so he had to be rehomed

I had an asain bumblebee catfish in with capone and he surprisingly didn't bother him at all I dont like the damn thing though very nocturnal but did a descent job of cleaning up at night. My oscar seems to beat up on anything big leaves the little guys alone. Allot of cats need larger tanks due to the barbells raphs are cool as steve mentioned also look into smaller growing syns

Ok guys I will proceed with extreme caution if I get something that isn't working I will take it out. I would like to have at least one other fish with the oscar. If I try and it doesn't work then that's fine. I will look into these options.
